General Description
Pixowl was a studio specialized in the production of mobile city-builder games with live operations (liveops) models. The company had already published titles of this kind and collaborated with well-known IPs such as Peanuts, The Addams Family, and Goosebumps.
I joined the studio as part of a newly formed team focused on developing new games in this genre and modernizing the production and development tools used across projects.
In this role, I gained valuable experience working on liveops projects—long-term games sustained by free-to-play business models, such as Her Oasis. Additionally, I contributed to the development of editing and content generation tools for these games, including their proprietary Web Editor.
This game was developed in Unity and published on Android and iOS under a free-to-play model, remaining online for approximately one and a half years. It combined the studio’s classic city-builder mechanics with Match-3 style mini-games, enriched by a strong narrative storyline, missions, and live events.
This was the studio’s final project before its closure in December 2025, and unfortunately, it could not be completed. It was conceived as another city-building game, but combined with tower defense mechanics, with a strong emphasis on resource management, character development, and strategic gameplay.
Within this project, we implemented complex systems for damage, weaknesses, and resistances, as well as active and passive abilities comparable to those found in renowned RPG titles. To support the long-term development of such a game, we simultaneously created a web-based tool designed to generate characters, abilities, equipment, levels, quest lines, and all other elements required for a project of this scale.
The “Web Editor” was a content generation and editing tool designed for Pixowl’s liveops games. Initially conceived as a replacement for an existing solution, it quickly surpassed its predecessor and evolved with each project to which it was adapted.
The development and use of this editor represent perhaps the most valuable experience from this role. Through this project, I acquired proficiency in Python and SQL for backend development, as well as Vue3, JavaScript, and HTML for frontend implementation. I also gained expertise in code architecture and design for maintaining the content of an online game.
